An Impastable Pasta Dinner Framework With Three Sauce Combinations

By ThinSlim Foods Blog

Impastable Penne label beside dry penne pasta

The easiest pasta dinners follow the same rhythm: cook the pasta, warm the sauce and additions in a large pan, then toss everything together while the pasta is hot. Once you have that rhythm, you can make very different dinners without starting from scratch.

Impastable contains wheat and egg. Use the package directions for the shape you choose.

Tomato sauce, sausage, and greens

Use Penne or Shells for a red sauce with browned sausage and spinach. Brown the sausage first, then warm the sauce in the same pan. Add the greens near the end so they soften without disappearing.

Drain the pasta and add it directly to the pan. Toss until the sauce reaches every piece, then finish with grated cheese if you like. Penne and Shells are good here because they hold onto bits of sausage and sauce instead of leaving them behind.

Pesto, chicken, and roasted vegetables

Rotini is made for pesto. Its twists give the sauce plenty of surface to cling to, and roasted vegetables fit easily between the spirals.

Warm cooked chicken and roasted vegetables together, then toss the drained rotini with pesto off direct high heat. If the pesto feels too thick, loosen it with a small splash of pasta cooking water. Add it gradually so the sauce coats the pasta instead of turning watery.

This is a particularly good use for leftover roasted vegetables. They bring color and texture without asking you to make another separate side dish.

Creamy lemon, shrimp, and peas

For a lighter-looking bowl with a creamy sauce, choose Elbows or Rice Orzo. Warm a creamy sauce gently with cooked shrimp and peas, then add lemon zest or juice to taste.

Elbows make the dish feel like a compact, spoonable comfort meal. Rice Orzo makes a smaller, more delicate bowl that also works well as a side. Add parsley or dill at the end if you want a fresh note.

Each Impastable shape lists 55 calories, 8 grams of net carbs, 36 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein per 2-ounce dry serving. Sauce, cheese, protein, and vegetables change the finished meal, so use the label on each addition if you track nutrition.
