The American Heart Association recommends canola oil as a healthy diet component. This may be because they are sponsored financially by the manufacturers of canola oil. A study was done that disproves the AHA “healthy” recommendation. Two groups of mice were used in a study: one group fed a regular diet and the other had their diet supplemented with a daily amount of canola oil. The second group showed signs of Alzheimer’s Disease with diminished cognitive function.

Key Takeaways:

  • Recently released medical studies are showing a link between memory and cognitive declines and the consumption of canola oil.
  • Animal studies have documented a link between certain memory benefits to an olive oil based diet.
  • Though vegetables oils such as canola are labeled as healthy, there is little data to support the claims despite some medical associations approving the messages.
