Mindfulness or staying in the now moment, can be performed most easily when people are focused on an activity. Mindfulness at meals is not just for spirituality, but can be an excellent way to manage food related illnesses like childhood diabetes as well. Have the child stay aware of food as he’s eating it. Start with small portions so that the child has the opportunity to be aware of fullness. Help him eat slowly by teaching the art of savoring. A few simple steps can put a child in touch with food as nourishment.
