The “paleo diet” is a diet which seeks to mimic the available diet of our ancestors from the Paleolithic era while also placing a focus on avoiding modern processed foods. A recent fad diet, the paleo diet bears little resemblance to anything that Paleolithic humans would have consumed. The main criticism of the diet is that the animal proteins, fruits and vegetables come from sources which were not in existence at the time. However, despite these criticisms, the paleo diet has been acknowledged to be beneficial in its emphasis in avoiding heavily processed foods, allowing one’s body to benefit from protein and nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables.
