Pre-workout drinks are becoming increasingly popular within the fitness community. These drinks are consumed about a half-hour before an individual begins an exercise regimen. The drinks contain various combinations of vitamins, minerals, and other supplements. Most also contain caffeine. The benefits of these pre-workout drinks is debatable. One study showed that they did not actually help people lose weight. However, this study examined men as they consumed the beverages for only eight days. It is thought that the caffeine and other ingredients in these drinks may give people an extra energy boost, which can be beneficial while exercising. Further study is needed.
