Are You Drinking Too Many Calories?

When you are trying to lose weight, it is important to count every tiny morsel of food you consume as part of your intake. This can be difficult, particularly in the beginning, but it can be even more difficult to keep track of the liquids you consume every day. Since drinking doesn’t typically fill you up, it can be easy to miscalculate how many calories are contained in the drinks you consume every day. There are a few ways to be sure you aren’t sabotaging your own weight loss effort with drinks, however:

Be aware of all alcohol – There may be times when you are having a party, going out to dinner, or having a drink with a few friends. Those cocktails are dangerous for any dieter, however. A simple margarita can have over 400 calories a glass! Avoiding alcoholic beverages altogether is the safest method, but any time you do decide to indulge, do your homework in advance so you know how many calories you are consuming and stick to only one or two glasses.

Sweet typically means calories – Skipping the soda and opting for tea instead so you can stay on track to lose weight? This is a great idea, unless you are drinking sweet tea – the sugar content will add unnecessary calories. The same is true for some seemingly healthy drinks, such as fruit juices – many juices are filled with sugar and calories that are unhealthy and can prevent weight loss.

Increase water intake – Although you may have times when you are craving a certain beverage, if you increase your daily water intake it will limit these cravings. Not only that, but drinking more water daily decreases your appetite, flushes the body of unhealthy toxins, and hydrates the skin.
